Family Fitness & Staying Active Together!

As the New Year reigns in most of us are planning new year’s resolutions. This is the time of year a lot of us take a look at our daily activities and decide how to better balance our lives. Whether it’s with work, fitness or family life we all try to make everything work. We make plans on what we are going to do to change things to better fit everything we love into our days. This year, make more time for the whole family to do things together and stay active!

The first step is setting your goals.  Know what you want to strive for this year or even just the first part of the year if you need to start slowly. Once you’ve set your priorities and are ready to make changes you’re ready to start the next steps.

Make time. This is a very important step, if you let time slip away from you, you could be missing out on family time, time for your health and wellness or something else. You must write it all down, your brain is holding tons of information all of the time and you can’t expect yourself to never forget something.

Put it on a calendar. When you’re making your schedule be sure to add family time, it can even double as fitness time depending on your activity. Making your schedule is half the battle; you’ll have to stick to it! Schedule family play time just like you schedule your work time and fitness routines. We get caught up in everyday chaos and lose track of our goals. The best way to make time for it all is to create a calendar. Set reminders on your phone, and don’t miss out what’s most important, your family time.

Have fun! – Don’t make it feel like exercise. If you’re looking for new ways to entertain the family, create obstacle courses; these can be all through your house, indoors or outdoors. Make check points and activities in between, this is a good way to incorporate fitness and fun. Have family tournaments for each of the games you own and create a trophy to pass around each time. Not only are you staying active with your family, you’re creating memories that will last a lifetime.
