    James Rubio (b. 1982, San Francisco) is a New York–based painter who studied photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before focusing on painting and street art. In 2006, he joined the Antagonist Art Movement, exhibiting at Niagara Bar and creating murals across New York, Austin, Chihuahua, and Quito.

    Rubio has shown widely in galleries, museums, and art fairs, including the Whitney, MoMA PS1, Luna Park, and Mana Contemporary. A member of Apostrophe NYC’s Base 12 Project, he currently exhibits with Ki Smith Gallery, and his work is held in major private and public collections.
